  The atrophy of muscles in dogs is frequently witnessed in an aging pet or one that suffers acutely from a recurring medical condition. It is a degeneration of their muscle cells that results in a rapid decrease of muscle mass which leads to reduced mobility and frailty. Adverse symptoms of atrophy of muscles in dogs can be confined to one specific muscle group or be generalized to all the weakened muscles in an aging dog and usually comes on gradually and unnoticeable due to age but can equally occur rapidly due to recurrent illnesses that a dog may suffer. Since maintaining muscle health throughout a dog’s life is important, dog owners need to become aware of the adverse effects of atrophy of muscles in dogs on the longevity and desirable quality of life of a dog.
